The End of an Era
// September 16th, 2008 // Blog
As of yesterday, I am officially no longer a member of Imperial College London's current study body.
Yes, I passed my PhD a few months ago now, but I was still part of the system, and had access to various services.
Now my IC email account has been deactivated, and the address is just for forwarding (an alumni perk).
I had that account for nine years. NINE YEARS! Surely I deserve a gold watch or something…
After 20-odd years in the UK education system, I am finally no longer a student.
I feel old and unwanted.
Sigh…
Maybe I should apply for another Masters degree? An MBA, perhaps? {grins}
Actually, THAT is why I am not very keen on using the school email. I know that it is easier at times and add credibility to the person who uses a school email, but what I always think about it, what happens after graduation?
no more school for you. How about finishing mine for me first?
I see so many Phd students going back for an MBA, so you will be in good company :-P
On another note… you can now teach… with a Phd .. so you can get back into academia that way.
the ending in itself is a beginning of something else
Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish (Steve Jobs)
Nine years…that’s two years longer than the standard 3-1-3…
hahaha… and WE can’t wait till HIGH SCHOOL finishes!
The student withdrawal symptoms….be strong iMuslim :p
Missy: Well, at least in my case I can keep the @imperial.ac.uk address… not as bling as a gold watch though.
organica: Umm…. no ta. You teach! I don’t do teaching! {hee}
Mezba: Ditto above!
tabman: hmm, sage words. Though I hope Stevey wasn’t including fasting in his statement!
WM: 3 = BSc, 1 = MSc, and 4/5 = PhD. I submitted my thesis last October, four years after registration, then had my viva a few months later. Now September has rolled round again, it has become near enough 5 years.
Cookies: I loved school! I wish I enjoyed my degrees as much as I did school.
Sumera: I’ll try. {wraps herself with her blanky}
‘and 4/5 = PhD’
:O !
I hope it isn’t always like this! :)
Sorry- I was thinking as a non-Science student (scientists get paid for doctoral research, don’t they?)
Congratulations on the completion of your PhD :)
Awww, congrats.. Another masters? Hmmm.. I would suggest, cosmology! :D
I am considering it for the future..
