She’s Back & This Time, It’s Impersonal

// July 12th, 2007 // No Comments » // Blog

Yes, i have returned to Facebook.

BUT!

It's for the “greater good” – honest!

I have signed up under my pseudonym; you can find me as IMuslim UK. It's supposed to be iMuslim UK, but you can't have everything.

This time round, i am actually open to random people befriending me – well, random bloggers. Just in case you're the easily confused type, we won't really be “friends”, so don't push your luck.

For those Muslim bloggers who are already signed up to FB, please join the group Muslim Bloggers (it's Facebook, not rocket science).

It's all part of my dastardly scheme for world domination – kinda – so please comply with my request, else i'll be forced to turn you into a pile of ashes, with my super-charged, lazer-guided, death ray (patent pending).

Kind regards,

Your Benevolent Leader (to be)

BBC News: Are my online friends for real?

This week I received this intriguing message from a man who moves in London's new media circles.

He wrote: “I met somebody the other day who told me that online networking was so important, and he didn't have the time, he was paying somebody to be him online. To blog, network, post etc . £1,000 a month too.

“Apparently it's a new occupation which he reckons already numbers hundreds of people, paid to be other people!”

Hey, there's an idea! One way to keep this blog alive, while i am away writing up. Any takers? I can't afford £1K/ month, though. Hmm… how about you give me the Fisabilillah Discount? Think of the reward!

No?

Muslims these days… pfft.

Stay Out Of My Facebook!

// March 5th, 2007 // 6 Comments » // Blog

As a continuation of my recent entry on Facebook, i thought i would highlight this news story, which relates how information revealed via social networking sites, including blogs, can be used to commit identity fraud.

Based on this, i would suggest that bloggers avoid using their real names (at least, your full name), and remove other important details such as your age, DOB (this includes Zodiac sign), exact location, mother's maiden name and anything else which may be used to forge your identity.

This site also explains how personal details stored on Facebook may be used by third parties for dubious purposes. Thanks go to Faraz, for the heads up.

Get Outta My FaceBook

// February 22nd, 2007 // 9 Comments » // Blog

In the last month, i've received a number of invites from various folk, ranging from my distant to not-too-distant past, to be “friends” on FaceBook. I'd heard of this site before, but never felt any need to register. Even though it took me a while to recall who a couple of the people “inviting” me were, and even though i have no idea what this site is for, and even though i doubt i'll ever meet or talk to many of these people again, i accepted their invites, mainly because i'm too nice to say no!
