As a kid, I was into SciFi much, but never found Star trek/ Wars interesting one bit! I am not sure why. I used to watch the SciFi channel here all day long.

I guess I’ve grown out of it :)

As-Salaamu ‘alaikum,

My parents are both into Star Dreck. I always hated it; not the acting or anything, but I found the premise of being on a ship millions of miles from earth really quite depressing. Plus the obvious less-than-believeable aspects, such as all the aliens being humans or at least humans with a couple of odd features that a make-up artist could mock up. Now that I don’t eat at the table with them except on a handful of special occasions, I can leave the room when it’s on (alhamdu lillah).

Btw, great catch with the Star Trek/Wars/Gate. I never thought to add “Gate”, even though I loved it; both the film and early SG1 spin-off.

I hear ya! I love when you meet another geeky Muslim sister and feel slightly less abnormal though :)

I have to admit, I’ve never taken to Star Trek/Wars/Gate so I don’t know if I count as a bona fide SciFi nerd at all (I find it hard to take actors seriously when they have weird gunky faces and stuff, unless it’s got a comedy side to it). I do love Philip K Dick and Arthur C Clarke stories, so am I allowed in the club?
