Obama-Mania or Just Plain Nutty?

// October 30th, 2008 // Blog

How can Barack Obama claim he has the economy and the common people in mind, when he has spent an estimated $3,000,000 on a 30 minute infomercial?

He doesn't even need the publicity!

As I've said elsewhere, he is potentially the lesser of two evils; but I question how wide that margin really is. It's not the first time that a smooth talking, charismatic, handsome, young guy has screwed over an entire nation.

I don't trust him.

I do understand why many Muslim Americans support him; but I think they need to keep the “love” in check.

Where did all his campaign millions come from? Let's not be naive. You do remember that you guys supported Bush the first time round, right? Don't let yourselves be bitten by the same hole twice…

All I mean is: I really hope you have some 'plan B's prepared for the very likely scenario that Obama will be changing his tune once in power, rather than the status quo.

McCain still sucks though!

    Who supported Bush?

  2. AnonyMouse says:

They all suck. They’re all crooks. We’re all doomed. *Shrugs* That’s how I see it!

    As-Salaamu ‘alaikum,

I thought a 30 minute infomercial was a big bullet to the foot. Just when you think someone’s home free, they pull a really stupid stunt like this. I do hope nobody was put off who wasn’t unwilling to vote for him anyway.

  4. piniyini says:

He can’t afford to lose and that’s why he’s spending these millions, besides there’s no point leaving campaign money lying around. I hope he wins!

If I were an US voter, I would still vote for him because I am not sure about him. About McCain, I am pretty much sure what he’s up to.

What’s funny about B(H)O is that many Lobby members are running behind him. Biden himself is a hawk. Our only hope is he is put inside the closet where he belongs after the election. Will that happen?

He seems very fishy to me. However, the way Media blocks alternative parties, there’s no hope at all for Nader and company. There’s also another guy with a similar agenda- no war etc.

As blogger JDSg said in a comment, the system is rigged because you choose a president to rule. It’s not parliamentary democracy.

The lesser of two evils is exactly how i see Mr Obama also. If you actually listen to what he has to say, he isn’t planning on changing all that much if he gets in office. Those holding him up as some sort of saviour are in for a big shock.

    Assalamualaikum Wa Rahmatullah

I was blessed with an opporunity to go listen to the late Imam Warith Deen Muhammad when he came to Toronto shortly before he passed away. May Allah bless him! Before he came to Toronto, Imam Warith had endorsed Barack Obama and thought highly of him. But there are also others like Imam Zaid Shakir who strongly criticize Obama for some of his stance. This is very complicated for American Muslims and those of us living around the corner. There is no doubt that life for American Muslims will be better if he is elected. At the very least, he will know what it is like being Muslim in America because some of his family members and friends are Muslims. Also, he has promised several times, and I really do believe him, that he will shut down Gitmo, inshaAllah. With that said, he is an incredibly smart politician. For a black man to figure out how he can win an election for the highest office in the US, he has to be the shrewdest politician in recent American history. I agree, we do need to be realistic. Not much will change in terms of US foreign policy. He’s just another politican. And how do we know when a politican is lieing? When he opens his mouth!

  9. Haleem says:

it’s actually good if Muslims are split.. then perhaps both candidates can consider wooing them, rather than one group taking them for granted and other vilifying them and both ignoring them!

  10. Lucy says:

Yusuf is right, as far as those of us outside of the US are concerned, we only care about American foreign policy which is mainly Iraq, Afghanistan and Israel/Palestine.
His Iraq plan is to stay there until further notice (same as Bush), he has promised to send more troops to Afghanistan and take incursions into Pakistan and maybe Syria also after this week (same as Bush) and he gave notice that he is staunchly going to defend Israel regardless (same as Bush) .
Doesn’t sound much like the change message on which he is standing to me.

    Hey salaams!

Ok, so living in the UK – this is how we see it (and by we – I really do mean me :D).

Sure – Obama is the lesser of 2 evils, but lets work with that for the moment. Doesn’t the fact that he was the best Democratic candidate mean that he is the best person (at this moment in time) to “lead” the country?

His fund raising is the money which was contributed by the public. There is no borrowed money (from what I understand). Also, the reason why he spent so much on advertising is because (and here is the kicker) – There are STILL undecided voters!!! I find it shocking, neigh unbelievable that people can still be undecided! Obama unfortunately has to pump in that money to make people swing towards him. I guess there is a little bit of racial stigma attached to him – and I assure you – if he was white, he would win this election with a landslide victory, it’s as simple as that!

Finally – I did not know this, but when the BBC covered this last week, I was shocked to learn that a large majority of muslims supported Bush the last time round. Unbelievable! And you are right – McCain truly does suck for all he is worth! While i’m at it… :D he also looks really creepy when he smiles; makes me feel like I need to run and hide behind my mom when he does :P
