A Tentative “Eid Mubarak”!

Tentative, because I haven't received the usual flurry of text messages and phone calls that normally arrives at this time (i.e., approximately one hour after Maghrib, the night before ‘Īd). I do know they have pronounced the end of Ramadan in Saudi (my uncle called and informed us, from whichever one of the two Holy Cities he happens to be in, alhamdulillah).

Anyway, while I wait for the moon dust to settle, I'll leave you with this fantastic text message my friend sent me about ten minutes ago (edited restoring 'txt spk' to 'real speak'):

Mubarak. It has been formally and unanimously agreed upon by all the religious bodies, jamiat, Imam, radio stations, Dewsbury [a town in England], Saudi, Morocco, Madina, along with all the biggest governing bodies – and not to mention Islam and 'S' Channel – that tomorrow, inshā’Allāh, will definitely be….

    So far, many of us in North America (at least, here in Eastern Canada) are expecting it to be announced for Wednesday. But Eid Mubarak to all those celebrating tomorrow!

    Just as a sidenote, the reason why Dewsbury is mentioned specifically here is probably because it is home to the main “markaz” of Jama’ah Tabligh in UK (and Europe altogether). So mentioning Dewsbury here implies that the responsible brothers of Tabligh are also unanimous in their declaration that tomorrow is, in fact, Tuesday.

    No gess! The Prayer in the Park was cancelled due to the bad weather… so I went to the largest masjid in East London instead. Sooooo many people, masha’Allah. I didn’t take any photos. I wasn’t as inspired… I missed the outdoors!

    We had also rain here in Denmark.

    Masha’Allah, I have never seen so many sisters in one place, and in fact it was one of the prayer halls the city offered to us. I believe almost all Muslim citizens in our city attended the prayer. Masha’Allah. It was beyond joyful moment for me. I was crying inside.

    But me and my mother were so tired that we had no energy to make dinner or at least to mark that it was ‘Eid’, except of course my mother’s tradition to wash curtains and windows in our small apartment few days before Eid.

    I went to bed straight after the prayer.
