Poetic Smackdown

// August 19th, 2008 // 7 Comments » // Blog

Thank Allāh for the video camera, seeing as I would not have been there to witness this even if I had somehow attended last week's IlmSummit. Girls, this is what our brothers get up to behind closed doors!

The Tease

// August 17th, 2008 // 19 Comments » // Blog

She sat in the middle of the well-cushioned sofa – an inanimate item of furniture intent on swallowing her whole, perhaps in its own weak efforts to comfort her. Any embrace will do, she thought.

It didn't take long for the tears to flow. One, then two, then uncontrollable streams. Cheeks softened with salty excess. Mascara no doubt running. Wipe, wipe, wipe them away before anyone sees. But who is there to see?, she thought.

Now her nose joins in. She has no tolerance for this, reaching down for a stray tissue, intent on subduing the rebellion taking place on the plane of her sullen face.

Right hand, open, grip, upwards now, closing in fast; she readies herself to release the tension. But something catches her by surprise.

His scent.

Egypt – What Can I Say?

// August 16th, 2008 // 9 Comments » // Blog

It seems the government of Egypt still feels indebted to the Children of Israel, for all that nasty slavery business back in the day of Moses, peace be upon him. Which means they are now willing to do anything to make it up to them; including helping to maintain the oppression of another group of innocents, by denying the transport of essential medical supplies into Gaza via their border with Israel.

Well, better late than never, eh guys? {shakes head}

Taken from a press release written by “EGYPT LET THE Scottish VAN CROSS TO GAZA NOW & End the Siege” Facebook group:

Yes, Another Marriage Topic… Sosueme!

// August 15th, 2008 // 22 Comments » // Blog

I was just reminded of the issue whilst chatting to a good friend (wink wink). I learnt of it a while ago, but completely forgot to blog about it. Anyway…

For those of you who have had to endure the annoyance that is your typical rishta, this custom may make your life a little easier, inshā’Allāh.

How I Plan on Meeting My Future Husband

// August 14th, 2008 // 19 Comments » // Blog

Keeping with the marriage theme, this article made me chuckle (hopefully not at the expense of the sister who was brave enough to write it [anonymously... not so brave then {says the woman who blogs behind a pseudonym (though a lot of people do actually know my true identity)}]):

I want to meet my future husband through the Western Muslim Website … phew, there I finally said it! Although I don't think it's the worst idea, I won't meet him through some future based WM marriage ads – this is a quality publication people, I don't think they'll resort to a “Shaadi.com” style ad page, that is, unless they get really desperate for money!

I have something else in mind…

Do You Think Practically About Marriage?

// August 13th, 2008 // 26 Comments » // Blog

A question I was asked very recently.

My answer was not particularly impressive. Perhaps due to the tension of the moment. But more likely because it is a question that requires some real thinking. Can any of us think practically about a subject that is tied to heart, mind, body and soul?

I had a post all written out, but who cares what I think? I want to hear from you.

So, single people… do you?

Married people… did you?

The Off Button

Can someone help me locate it please?

You see, I lost the manual that came with my body. It was on loan to my parents, but I think they threw it out with some old baby toys when I entered secondary school – which explains the totally horrendous awkward teenager phase that started around the same time.

Maybe some of you still have your user guides, and could help a sista out?

The Princess & The Ivory Tower: Part III

// August 12th, 2008 // 5 Comments » // Blog

“Silly girl…”

“Silly, silly, stupid girl!”

“How could you do this?”

“I mean, haven't you ever watched a Horror film? There are RULES! Yes, like in Scream

“And even though that particular storyline took place in a modern day, American suburb; I am pretty sure walking down a darkly lit, barely visible path, through a spooky, haunted, enchanted forest -  alone - would be on the list entitled: 'what not to do if you want to survive a Horror movie based on a Fairy Tale'.

“Though, it's slightly ironic how the character who originally narrates the rules in the first instalment of the Scream trilogy, was then later horribly killed in the second part, only to be 'resurrected' on screen in the last film via a video he apparently recorded prior to his gruesome murder, in order to impart some more rule-based wisdom, which he obviously didn't follow very well, seeing as he was speaking from beyond the grave. It really makes you wonder how much he actually knew…

“Even so, I think my original point was valid… hey, are you even listening to me? HELLOOOOO!”
