Arial and her sisters roasting over the BBQ… the Islamic ending to The Little Mermaid?

Many of the fuqaha' mentioned mermaids and differed on the ruling concerning them. Some of them said that they are permissible (to eat) because of the general meaning of the evidence which says that whatever is in the sea is permissible. This is the view of the Shaafa'is and Hanbalis, and is the view of most of the Maalikis and of Ibn Hazm and others. And some of them regarded it as haraam because it is not a kind of fish. This is the view of the Hanafis and of al-Layth ibn Sa'd.

I'm not taking the mick out of the blessed fuqaha'… but mermaids… mermaids? Is there an Islamic version of April Fools Day that i am unaware of?! Maybe it's a mistranslation of an Arabic word? Definitely makes for interesting reading!

Podcast Mania

I feel a little hesistant to announce this here… but Shazia and I have teamed up to launch a new series of podcasts for Nisaa.ca, and we'd really like your feedback, so please check it out! I've closed comments on this entry, so please leave your thoughts over at Nisaa.

I think the shyness stems from the fact that a greater piece of the “real me” is now on offer to the “world”. My British accent aside, which some North Americans seem to like, i don't have much confidence in my talents as an interviewer! So I will try to brush up my skills for future podcasts, inshā’Allāh.

Less stuttering, less giggling, and more, erm… being normal? Not sure i can promise that though, as it may involve prescription medication…

Paradise Wasn’t Enough

I write this with a smile because I believe finding your special someone is a beautiful experience that needs to be shared with the world. It's a holy, spiritual union that God has destined. Think about it. Paradise wasn't enough for Prophet Adam. He had it all, but still needed Eve as his soul mate. Only then did Eve complete his Paradise. Only then.

Sorry for the complete lack of blogging… well, blogging on this site. I've been glued to the computer all week working on various other blogs… just not my own! Lack of inspiration also doesn't help. Ever feel like you're all blogged out? Like, “what's the point?”. Not “what's the points of blogging”… rather, “What's the point of me babbling on about rubbish? I want to make a difference!” etc. That's where i'm at. Alhamdulillah, my other projects seem to be a better use of my blogging time in that sense… but i miss this place, and my little community of blogging pals. Not sure how to remedy this lull!
