Bugs In My Masjid
// August 1st, 2007 // Blog
Unlike a certain blogger, my use of the word “bugs” in the title is actually relevant to the entry – unfortunately!
I was praying salatul Dhohr in the hospital prayer room, when out the corner of my right eye, i noticed something moving along the edge of my prayer mat. I try to ignore it, telling myself that i'm just seeing things, but the fact that i could still detect this “something” moving after a minute, really undermined my half-hearted attempts at self-reassurance.
I finished my two rakaat, and immediately looked to my right to spot a beetle-type thing crawling along the carpet! It may have been a baby cockroach… YACK!
The thing was, i only had a short time to pray, and i couldn't waste any of it being all girly, so i continued on into my next set of rakaah – but you can imagine how my kushoo had gone straight out of the window. At one point, i thought i felt something on my left foot, and my immediate reflex reaction was to start shaking it wildly – in the middle of my qiyaam!
Alhamdulillah, the little visitor never found its way onto my masallah – only Allāh knows what would have happened then!
It reminded me of a couple of weeks ago, when once again, i noticed something crawling out the corner of my eye, but this time, it was on me! Again, i tried to reassure myself, that it must me a stray hair or loose thread… but when i went to give salaams to my right, i saw a teeny, tiny spider sitting on my shoulder, most likely greeting me with a friendly: “Well, howdy-doo!” (you just have to watch Madagascar – too funny). I froze; i think that must've been the longest salaam i have ever given!
If you didn't already know it: bugs and salaat do not mix! {shivers}
