Ninjabi

// April 23rd, 2007 // 6 Comments » // Blog

Just thought i'd follow on from my Kick Ass entry (in more than just name – yeah, lamo joke), with the URL to the Ninjabi website.

Last week i learnt three more blocking moves, as well as a kick that would have guys tearing at the eyes – you know what i'm sayin'? Unfortunately, later in the evening, when i tried to show my mum this particular move, i quickly realized that my jilbab would serve as a severe impediment to such an attack! Your leg can only go so high with that thing on. Makes me wonder what other moves are anti-jilbab (or anti-long skirt). I think i'll have to bring that up with the instructor, next time, inshā’Allāh.

Oh, i have also discovered my favourite strike! I can't remember what it's called, but it involves the elbow. It's quite powerful, and i really want to try it out on someone! Next time i spot a guy trying to gate-crash the sisters-only hall of a segregated wedding, “looking for his Mrs”, he'll be wishing he'd used his damned mobile phone instead, after i'm through with him!

Wha-cha!

A First

Unique Muslimah has done it again… a powerful piece of fiction, that speaks straight to the heart.

She was embarrassed, she didn't want to cause a scene, she wanted to scream and tell him to stop, but what would happen then? She had never been in this situation before, she was confused, frightened, scared. “Protect me Hani, don't do this in public” she told him, edging away. He woke up from his trance. He looked at her and told her, “We're in love, we have the right to do this“. She shook her head, “No, not here. When we're married”. She had made it clear, didn't she? But he ignored her and pulled her into his arms again, trying to kiss her. He needed her, the atmosphere was so right. He just wanted a kiss, a taste. He wouldn't give up until he had. Shayma squirmed, tried to break free, but he was stronger.

If i could, i'd dump her whole blog on I J T E M A – but she hasn't offered to bribe me, yet. Plus, we're trying to employ an unofficial rule of not linking to the same blog too often, in order to highlight 'lesser known' gifted writers. So, instead, i shall honour her with a link on my 'lesser known' blog.

Organic's comment in response to the entry also deserves a mention; it spoke volumes to me:

When you truly love someone, you would want to preserve their self dignity and honor. You will try to raise them above you, you want them to be better than everyone–including yourself. You will never try to hurt them. You will protect them. Your own selfish needs will become unimportant. When you love, you respect.

Hani doesn't respect his fiance. He thinks only of his own needs. He might think he loves her, but love can never hurt, right?

I J T E M A

I forgot to mention that Little Miss iMuslim, here, has gone up in the world – for two weeks, anyway. It's my turn to sit in the illustrious Editor's chair at I J T E M A.

Oh, the power!

I also forgot to mention anything at all about this project, before now. So, to make up for this PR blunder, i've dedicated a whole page to it, on my blog.

Now listen guys, i'm a busy girl. In fact, all the contributors at I J T E M A are hard working folk (hmm, that implies that i, too, am hard working – i didn't mean to do that), so we would really appreciate any help from the blogging public, that would make our lives a little easier. Thus, if you spot any decent blog entries on Islam, and/or the Muslims, that you think are worthy of a shout-out on I J T E M A, then please send them in to us, and we'll consider them for publication. You can even be so brazen as to submit your own work. Can you really pass up such a great chance for some major referral hit activity? Thought not.

Now, back to the Editor's Office for me. I really hope that this new found position of influence and authority, doesn't go to my head.

NB: All bribes, kickbacks, and payoffs can now easily be sent to my PayPal account, via my e-mail address, imuslim_uk(at)yahoo(dot)co(dot)uk. Extortion has never before been so easy!

Combined with an equally adorable pic over at OM's blog, it's enough to turn one broody… eep!

Quick! Someone talk about drag racing, football, motorcycles – anything!

I'm about to drown in my own oestrogen!

Every Tuesday lunch-time, my building hosts a work-in-progress seminar. These presentations serve as an opportunity for members of the department to learn about what their colleagues are up to in the labs. Only students and postdocs present, but group leaders are allowed to attend. For the past three years, i have somehow managed to avoid being selected… until today.

I think i may be a little out of date with this, but i'm linking to it anyway…

Frisk me, I'm Muslim

More T-shirt slogan hilarity here.

Warning: there are a few shots of sisters in T-shirts – so if you're not into that kind of thing, then you know not to click!

Green Smoothies

// April 13th, 2007 // 16 Comments » // Blog

Continuing with the theme of beauty, i now share with you, my beauteous readers, a great method for improving your looks, and overall health.

Guys, don't switch off just yet; you may think that looking good is a girly-girl issue, but i am quite sure your present/ future wives will appreciate any small effort you make to look buff!

I heard about green smoothies a while ago, on a women's forum. It was suggested as a great tip to improve skin health – zapping those nasty spots from the inside. It is also a brilliant way to get your '5 a day' fruit rations. I'm really lazy [i could put a full stop here] when it comes to eating fruit, veg, and most other things healthy, so i was quite keen to try it out.

The idea is to blend fruits and greens (such as spinach, lettuce, parsley; basically any green leaf), in a 60:40 ratio to make a smoothie. Apparently, the goodies in green leaves are very good for our health, but because they tend to taste bitter, we don't get nearly enough in our diet. The fruit in the smoothie completely masks the bitterness of the greens – if it wasn't for the colour, you'd never know they were there!
