For those who don’t know, tomorrow (Saturday 30th Dec) is the second of the two Muslim festivals, called Eid-ul-Adha. It is a celebration to commemorate the sacrifice that our father and role model, Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him), was prepared to make for the sake of His Lord.

And as humans, they are fallible, pig-headed and are just as likely to follow dogma as any theist.
You may think i’m referring to the Theory of Evolution – if only it were that simple!
I’m talking about the world of scientific research in general. I’ll narrow the field down to molecular biology, as i suppose i cannot tar the whole community with the same brush.
Please trust me that i am talking from personal experience now.

I came across some very beautiful verses from the Qur’an recently. I felt the reminder was quite relevant for the type of bloggers i seem to be engaging with these days.
The people i am referring to are Christians, and the verses are these:

That was my thought three years ago when i learnt that there are around 20 million Muslims in China. I don’t know why i was so shocked, but my ignorance in Islam (and most other matters) was pretty well-rounded back then!
Once i discovered this amazing fact, i did my best to find out more information on this Muslim community via my friend on the web, Google.
Soon after, i stumbled across this very informative website.
It belongs to a group that organizes tours of Islamic sites around China. Any money raised goes towards helping the orphans under their care as well as the poor people of the community.
Among the glowing testimonies on the website is one from the photographer, Peter Sanders. He took some AMAZING photos during that time, mashallah, that can be found on his website under the travel section, along with other stunning images from around the Muslim world.
I encourage those who are planning a trip abroad – both Muslim and non-Muslim – to investigate this tour further. It seems like one of those “once in a lifetime” journeys you’ll never forget.
If my father was up to it (and i wasn’t a final year graduate student) i would totally be on the next plane out there, inshallah!

I’m no vegetarian.
I love my meat.
Chicken, lamb, beef… shove them in a curry, and i’ll eat them!
But watching this video brought to light how poorly such animals may be treated before ending up on my plate.
