As with the other Abrahamic faiths, active and open homosexuality in the community is not condoned under Islamic law, as homosexual practices are considered as sinful. The word “sin” will hit a nerve with some, but simply see it as a term that is used to describe a sort of crime, which itself can be defined as an activity that causes harm either to oneself or to society at large, depending on the context. One cannot say it is a crime against God, as we are told again and again in the Qur’an that we cannot harm Allah [God] with our deeds, we only harm ourselves. So God’s commands are for our benefit and not just to make our lives difficult.

The Veil – a rethink

I have been rethinking my original comment on the blog Women of Faith. My original suggestion was that the veil is a barrier to free communication, but that this was a deliberate part of its design. However as i do not wear the veil, i must question the validity of my own opinion. Many sisters insist that they are able to communicate easily whilst wearing the niqab, and speaking from my own experience i have always been able to understand what a niqabi sister is saying to me!

I believe the definition of feminism that you are referring to is (according to dictionary.com):
1) the doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men.
2) an organized movement for the attainment of such rights for women.

With this definition in mind, I believe Islam is above such a doctrine. (more…)

Alhamdulillah, although i wear the khimar and jilbab, i do not observe the veil. A part of me would like to, but then another part reassures the first that it is not an obligation so let’s not go crazy. Waswasa time!

Causes of Terrorism in the UK

I doubt that there is a link between racial background and terrorist activity. It is simply a fact that most of the muslims in the UK are from migrant families from these areas of the world.

The reason why young men are targeted more (both by police & supposed “terrorist recruitment agents”) are that they are more likely to release their frustations via violent means. I was going to also suggest that the widening education gap between the sexes in this country may contribute, but then i remembered that many of the alleged and actual terrorists have been university-educated brothers from middle-class backgrounds!
